The classes, curriculum, schedule and format, are created by the teachers themselves. The subject of each class is a topic that teacher practices on a regular basis, and most likely makes a living based on those skills. In other words, the teacher is a professional in practice.
One of One Stop Shop’s potential strengths is the versatility of the people offering the skills to us.
Some classes may take the form of an apprenticeship, some may be more like a lecture, others more a discussion, and any other number of formats.
One Stop Shop believes that everyone has something to share regardless of how they choose to share it. It could be a lecture format, shadowing, apprenticeship, discussion, etc. We are thinking beyond traditional definitions of teacher and student, of teaching and learning.
Whatever way the workshop is delivered, valuable information is being shared by someone who wants to share it, and to people who want to learn.
This is a grassroots effort, which means classes will most likely take place in people’s homes or public spaces. We do not have an office or our own space because this is a way to keep costs down. For cooking classes, you will be in someone’s kitchen while they teach, for computer classes, you will bring your own laptop (or borrow one) to someone’s house for class, and so on.
The point is to make this affordable to those who want to take classes.
We will try to make classes as financially accessible as possible, while rewarding the teachers for their incredible contributions.
In order for this to happen, we need your support, participation and help. It’s a village that will help to make this successful. |
Students will mostly be creative folks wanting to expand their backgrounds, or add to their existing talents and professions.
Classes will usually consist of a series of sessions, not lasting more than 2 months at a time to account for busy schedules and ever changing commitments.
This is a place where students become teachers and teachers become students.
You will be in a room of your peers, and everyone will be in that room because they want to be there.
We are very excited to have you involved in this effort, and can't wait to see you in classes or at our gathering!
